Detailed Medifast Review

The Medifast diet is a hugely popular diet plan which promises to help you lose 2 to 5 pounds per week, without needing to count calories, carbs or points.

But is Medifast the real deal? What are the pros and cons to this diet?

In this review, we will share our research into the Medifast, so you can come to your own conclusion as to whether this is the diet plan for you.

Let’s get started:

So what exactly is Medifast? The main product offered by this company is the “5&1 meal plan”. This is a daily meal plan that consists of 6 meals each day, which are eaten 2-3 hours apart. The diet has been specifically designed to cause a calorie deficit, which means you’ll consume less calories than your body maintenance level requires – which ultimately leads to weight loss.

5 of the meals you need to eat daily are called “Medifast meals”.

These consist of small meals such as shakes, bars, soups, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, and similar. There are over 60 different types of Medifast meal to choose from.

The 6th meal you are required to eat daily is a “lean & green” meal – which usually consists of some kind of meat (beef, chicken or fish) and salad or vegetables. If you’re a vegetarian, then there’s a different option available which doesn’t include meat. There’s also a special Medifast diet for diabetic people.

However, these aren’t your usual diet plans where you need to search for unusual ingredients at your grocery store. The Medifast meals are shipped to you directly. This means you don’t need to go to your grocery store to hunt down special ingredients, everything you need is delivered with your order.

You can buy the 5&1 plan in various packages. The largest package is 143 meals (which lasts for 4 weeks). This costs $275. You also have the option of buying a two week supply for $140.50. (Prices correct at time of writing).

You also have the option of choosing a customized meal plan, by choosing your favorites from each required section.

These costs include the 5 Medifast meals, although you will still have to buy your “lean and green” meal separately from your grocery store. This is because vegetables, meats, and salads are perishable – so obviously these can’t be send with a 4 week supply.

The Medifast diet plan may seem expensive at first glance – but really, these meals will replace your personal grocery shopping for 2-4 weeks – so the cost isn’t really much different.

The Medifast diet seems to be more appropriate for people who are significantly overweight. It is a serious solution, which works for practically anyone as long as they follow the rules. If you have less weight to loose, the Medifast program will still work for you – although it’s a more drastic solution to take if you only have a few pounds to loose.

Signing up for the Medifast diet is certainly a step of commitment above buying the latest fad diet book. The plan is incredibly convenient (which is one of the reasons for its success).

You have all your meals for the next 4 weeks shipped to you, and if you follow the plan properly you’re virtually guaranteed to see results.

Medifast is also one of the few weight loss diets to have undergone clinical studies into its effectiveness. Studies by John Hopkins Weight Management Center have shown that on average, males lost 67lbs, and females lost 47.5lbs after using Medifast for 16 weeks.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, if you’re serious about loosing weight, Medifast is probably the most “certain” way of getting the results you want, short of surgery.

It isn’t the cheapest option, however – and still requires you to stick to the plan, without sneaking in extra food that you may enjoy. This is required of virtually any weight loss diet.

The convenience factor and certainty of improvement is a big reason to give this diet a try – especially if you would like to loose a lot of weight.
