How To Lose Weight In Fall And Winter - Even If It's Cold Outside And You Don't Feel Like Exercising

I’m sure it won’t surprise you to learn that different times of year mean more (or less) people decide to take up a weight loss diet.

Of course, in January people make new year’s resolutions. As it comes up to Summer, we want to improve our physique for the beaches and regularly going out.

But what about when Fall and Winter comes? How do you find the motivation to lose weight during these times? Especially when it’s colder – because it’s not so fun to be out and about.

As autumn approaches the tendency is to get outside less than in the summer and exercise less. A decrease in your activity means you won't keep up the same level of weight loss and you might even start gaining a bit of the weight back. What can you do?

Here’s a few things you can do to help you out when it seems too tough to keep up with your weight loss goals during the various seasons.

The best solution is to find other ways to exercise if the weather isn’t so great. If you've taken up regular walking during the Spring and Summer, then you can always find other interesting places to inside to walk.

Try your local shopping mall. Did you know that many malls have walking groups that meet in the morning, or in the evening, to walk for exercise? But even if you can't find a group to walk with, don't let that stop you. Malls are busy places and you won't look out of place walking. You can also do a little Christmas shopping!

Malls often have two levels so that means you have stairs to boost your workout as well. Dress comfortably and walk at a brisk pace. You'll be surprised how long it will take you to walk the perimeter of the entire mall. You can change your route to vary your scenery. Walk counter clockwise one day and clockwise the next. Start on the east side, then the next day start on the north side. You might want to leave your credit cards at home to avoid temptation of buying things though!

You can use public buildings with well lit and safe stairwells to walk. Keep to stairs that are in public view and not closed off. Universities and junior colleges have enough space to walk comfortably. With all the students that are out and about you won't feel silly walking. Sometimes the exterior walkways between buildings are covered so you don't have to worry about rain or snow, and can still get a breath of fresh air.

Use your own residence. If you have stairs, climb them. If you don't, you can walk in place, alternating with jogging in place. Another alternative is to find a sturdy bench that's about a foot off the ground. Walk in place for ten minutes swinging your arms. Then step up on the bench and down five or six times. Go back to walking in place for an additional ten minutes then step up to the bench. Finish with ten minutes of walking.

Dress for the weather. Don't let a little cold stop you. Find a warm jacket and sweat pants. Layer with a top and sweater you can remove once you warm up. Fabrics that wick sweat away from your skin are best. You don’t want to overheat because you're overdressed.

Get a dog. Dogs make great walking companions and they won't let the weather be your excuse to skip the exercise. Dogs love to walk or jog. You can even take a dog with you if bicycling is your favorite exercise. Start out slow. The first time, take the dog on a leash and just push your bike. Then work up to riding slowly while your canine companion gets used to being on the leash and followed by you on the bike. Soon you and your pup will be sailing along.

In conclusion, you don’t need to let the changing seasons deter you from your weight loss goals. If you have the motivation, you’ll always be able to find a way to get your exercise and enjoy it at the same time. Good luck!
