A Delicious Low Fat Recipe To Help You Lose Weight

Keeping with our recent articles revealing delicious and healthy recipes you can include in your weight loss diets, we now have some tasty Greek recipes for you.

All of these recipes are low in calories and low in fat. Olive oil is also used in many of these recipes. Olive oil is a very good substitute for many things, and it’s often included in good recipes and weight loss diet plans.

Let’s get started with our recipe:

The first dish is a Greek chickpea soup.

Start off by chopping one single onion. Sauté in one tablespoon of olive oil until translucent. Also add in one can drained chickpeas and one quart chicken broth.

Cook on a low heat for just 20 minutes. If you like to, you can use an immersion blender to blend some of the chickpeas to thicken the soup- this isn’t a requirement, however.

Just before its time to serve up, add the juice of one lemon and 2 tablespoons of olive oil.

Serve with a few lemon wedges.

The next part of this menu plan is stuffed pita pockets.

To prepare this dish, simply combine one chopped cucumber, a bunch of green onions, and about a ½ cup of fresh dill, or two tablespoons of dried dill, with 1 cup of non-fat plain yogurt, then set aside.

Mix one pound of ground turkey with a tablespoon each of cumin, cilantro, garlic and one egg or two egg whites, shape into meatballs about the size of a walnut. Sauté in one tablespoon olive oil until cooked through.

You could use a mixture of ground lamb and turkey if you prefer.

Slice the top off whole wheat pita pockets and gently open them. Stuff with fresh raw spinach, a tablespoon of non-fat or low fat feta cheese and three meatballs. Top with ¼ cup of the cucumber mixture. Serve while still warm.

You should have a few meatballs left over for lunch the next day, too.

The next part of the menu is the vegetable medley.

Start off by slicing one eggplant, sprinkle lightly with salt and set aside.

Slice a tomato, a potato, a large green pepper, and one large onion. Rinse the eggplant slices. The salt will draw out any bitterness. Spread one tablespoon of olive oil in the bottom of a baking dish.

Layer the eggplant and drizzle with another tablespoon of olive oil. Layer the remaining vegetables ending with the tomatoes. Salt and pepper to taste and drizzle with a final tablespoon of olive oil.

Finally, you need to bake at 350 degrees until potato and eggplant are soft and cooked through.

If there are any leftovers you can combine the meatballs with the chickpea soup for another dinner – which is a great way to make these meals last a little longer and save money.

You can also combine the meatballs with the vegetable medley. Add more chicken broth to moisten the mixture. If there's too much broth add a sliced raw potato. Then bake to heat through or until the potatoes are cooked.

Add an additional can of chickpeas to the chickpea soup and blend. The consistency should be spreadable. Add chopped dill pickles and use as a spread on whole wheat tortillas or pita bread.

This should make a delicious Greek style meal. It’s also very healthy, and it should fit into most weight loss diet plans. This recipe also has the added benefit of leaving leftovers which can be used in meals either the next day or later in the week.

This is a great way to save money and lighten the preparation time, for when you don’t feel like cooking. You can simply take out the previously prepared food and still have a delicious and convenient meal.
